Success Story
Recently, a young man in Foster Care made his way to college. Regarded as an intelligent young man, David's life in foster care included a struggle to follow the rules of a predominantly female environment. TYC staff member, Forrest, helped him identify his obstacles and his goals. Forrest spent time taking him to Cubs and White Sox games, playing ball and looking for jobs with him. Many people thought David was another of Forrest's sons.
At one game, David commented that he wanted to "be somebody" and go to college. Forrest encouraged him, but warned that it would be hard work and he would have to stay focused. David took this to heart and agreed to meet with Forrest weekly through high school graduation. David was accepted at an Illinois college, a real accomplishment among foster kids. Forrest helped him move and participated in his college orientation. A TYC donor, Lockton Companies, provided a laptop computer for David. David continues to report excellent grades in the second semester of his freshman year.
David says next to God and himself, Forrest has had the greatest impact on his life. Forrest "stood by me through good times and bad." David is working hard and wants Forrest to be proud of him.
